Chief Executive Officer and President
As President and CEO of PayFlex, Mike leads the organization with the goal to fulfill its purpose: to make it simple to plan, save, and pay for personal well-being. He’s guiding PayFlex into its next chapter, delivering personalized health care solutions to educate, guide and support PayFlex members on their path to financial well-being. Mike is most passionate about helping people achieve their health ambitions, optimizing their health care dollars and delivering exceptional service to each member. He’s the visionary behind leading-edge operational strategies that build on PayFlex's strong foundation of innovation, collaboration and empowerment. As a leader, Mike is committed to bringing people together, instilling a shared vision, fostering collaboration and driving organizational development to ensure continued growth.
Prior to leading PayFlex, Mike served as Vice President of Global Business Solutions for Human Resources at Aetna, where he led employee service delivery functions. At the same time, Mike served as Head of Human Resources for the Global Finance organization and the Global Operations & Technology organization. Before joining Aetna, Mike held several executive roles, including Chief Operating Officer for North America at Mercer, Chief Financial Officer and Chief Control Officer for Human Resources at JPMorgan Chase & Co., Senior Vice President of Benefits Outsourcing at Affiliated Computer Services, and various leadership roles at Mellon Financial Corporation. Mike holds a bachelor’s degree in accounting and a Master of Business Administration in finance from Pace University, and he has completed executive education programs in general management and leadership at Columbia Business School.
Head of Operations
As the leader of operations, Carolyn has responsibility for Back Office, Card, Funding and Print Operations across all products. She also manages over $2 billion in assets and drives a culture of continuous improvement. With a passion for finding efficiencies and leveraging best practices, Carolyn continuously seeks to optimize the business. She has more than 25 years of experience in the health care industry and has held a number of leadership roles within collections and accounts receivable, regulatory compliance, corporate training and policy development.
Carolyn is active with several industry groups, including the Employers’ Council on Flexible Compensation (ECFC), the Health Savings Account (HSA) Council and Aetna/CVS Government Affairs. Carolyn holds a Master of Business Administration from Patten University, as well as a Master of Arts from The Graduate Institute and an undergraduate degree in social work from St. Joseph College (now the University of St. Joseph).
Chief Marketing Officer
Susan leads the marketing team, whose focus is promoting PayFlex’s products and services through a variety of channels while educating and engaging members. Her vision is to create a positive, memorable experience for anyone who interacts with PayFlex.
Susan’s experience in sales and consulting, combined with an education and passion for marketing, led her to a unique opportunity with PayFlex. Susan was able to build a marketing team from the ground up, cultivate the PayFlex brand into a well-known industry name and shape the member experience through a myriad of marketing initiatives. Susan holds a bachelor’s degree in marketing from Bryant University in Rhode Island and a Master of Business Administration in marketing from Bentley College in Waltham, Massachusetts.
Director of Business Initiatives
Stephanie is passionately focused on aligning the PayFlex culture to our strategic goals. She also leads growth and development on behalf of all team members. Her charter is to work across the organization to nurture a culture that is unique, admired and sustainable.
Prior to joining PayFlex in 2017, Stephanie spent 13 years leading a number of cross-functional Aetna initiatives. She began her career in National Accounts and most recently supported the organization through a large-scale acquisition and integration. Her experiences afforded her the knowledge that working in a large corporation requires precise communication, collaboration, a strong culture and focus on growth and development. Stephanie is a life-long native of Connecticut, where she obtained a degree in sociology and marketing from Central Connecticut State University.
Head of Client Services
Jack joined PayFlex in February 2017 to spearhead Aetna’s consumer payments strategy, focused on delivering solutions that make paying for health care expenses fast, simple and secure while improving our members’ experience. In 2019, he was appointed to lead the Client Services organization within PayFlex.
Jack brings a wealth of experience in the payments, financial and health care spaces. For more than 30 years, Jack has held strategic leadership roles, having served as the Vice President of Digital Payments Technology at Mastercard®, Vice President of Business Platforms and Operations at Optum/United Health Group, and in several leadership roles within Citibank, Chase and AT&T. Jack holds a bachelor’s degree from Sacred Heart University in marketing management and economics.
Chief Technology Officer
As the Chief Technology Officer of PayFlex, Michael is dedicated to developing and maintaining secure systems that make it simple to plan, save, and pay for personal well-being.
Michael has a passion for technology and 25 years of experience in technology consulting and solution delivery. He is committed to driving quality, efficiency and innovation, with a focus on the customer experience and security. Prior to joining PayFlex, Michael was a part of Accenture’s technology practice, responsible for delivering technology solutions for clients in the financial services industry. Michael holds a bachelor’s degree in industrial engineering from Iowa State University.
Chief Financial Officer
As Chief Financial Officer, Morgan is focused on the current and future financial health of the PayFlex business. He also partners with the business development team on pricing and product development strategies.
Prior to joining PayFlex in 2017, Morgan held various finance and accounting roles focused largely on product development, financial modeling and long-range planning. Morgan holds a bachelor’s degree in accounting from the University of Nebraska and a Master of Business Administration from Creighton University.
Chief Strategy and Product Officer
Jenn is the leader of PayFlex’s Strategy and Product Development organization. She joined PayFlex in 2013 to co-lead the launch of a first-of-its-kind digital payment solution and has spearheaded several transformation initiatives in the areas of digital, agile development and enterprise investment. Through her dynamic leadership, Jenn has driven innovation across PayFlex’s culture, which fosters products and services to make it simple to plan, save, and pay for personal well-being.
Prior to joining PayFlex, Jenn held various roles within Aetna, inventing and launching new products and developing business segment strategies. Jenn holds a both a bachelor’s degree and a Master of Business Administration from Niagara University. She is also a former Division 1 lacrosse player and Ironman contestant.
Chief People Officer
Carla joined the PayFlex organization in 2020. She is focused on aligning the business strategy with a talent strategy that will ready the organization for the workforce of the future.
Carla brings more than 20 years of Human Resources experience to PayFlex. In her role, she is responsible for collaborating with business leaders to deliver HR strategies that align talent development, leadership and employee engagement initiatives in accordance with business goals. Prior to joining the PayFlex team, Carla held several human resources leadership positions within Aetna supporting corporate and field organizations and implementing the company’s leadership competencies strategy. Carla earned her bachelor’s degree in business administration from Florida A&M University and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Georgia.
Head of Oversight and Control
As head of oversight and control for PayFlex, Jeff leads the regulatory affairs and corporate compliance program. Jeff is dedicated to leading and cultivating a culture of compliance by providing sound direction, driving a robust control environment and helping to safeguard our clients, members and colleagues by ensuring compliance with all legal and regulatory requirements on behalf of PayFlex. Jeff leads the PayFlex Regulatory Affairs team, the Controls Unit and the Policy Governance and Client Contract Management program.
Prior to joining PayFlex in 2010, Jeff managed group health care compliance at Coventry Health Care of Nebraska as the HIPAA Privacy Officer and managed regulatory compliance for group insurance products at Mutual of Omaha. He has more than 20 years of legal and regulatory compliance experience, specializing in the areas of employee benefits, health insurance and tax-advantaged accounts. Jeff holds a bachelor’s degree in political science with a concentration in public administration from the University of Nebraska and received his Juris Doctorate from Creighton University School of Law.
Chief Commercial Officer
Paul joined PayFlex in July 2019 to lead the business development effort. Paul is a seasoned financial services executive with a demonstrated ability to build and lead high-performing teams capable of delivering sustained organic growth.
Prior to joining PayFlex, Paul held a series of executive roles, including North American Platinum Client Executive and National Director of Wealth and Insurance Alliances for BNY Mellon’s investment management and wealth management businesses. Paul also led the business development and client management functions for JPMorgan Chase and its corporate prepaid card franchise, which included their health savings account business. Prior to entering the private sector, Paul served as an infantry officer in the United States Army’s 75th Ranger Regiment. Paul holds a bachelor’s degree from The Citadel and a Master of Business Administration from the SC Johnson Graduate School of Management at Cornell University.
Head of Member Services
Michael joined PayFlex in February of 2013 to oversee the customer service, claim and member experience teams. He has a proven track record of building and fostering a culture focused on providing an enhanced member experience.
Prior to joining PayFlex, Michael held a number of positions in his 23 years at Aetna. He began his career on the front lines and moved into different roles that rounded out his experience, including financial analyst, plan sponsor liaison, project manager and manager of service operations, often working with some of Aetna’s largest customers. Michael holds a bachelor’s degree in finance and organizational behavior from Illinois State University.
